Early Intervention, Lasting Impact

Understanding Student Attitudes to Enhance Learning and Wellbeing
Pass

PASS (Pupil Attitudes to Self and School) is a trusted psychometric assessment designed to help schools measure and understand how students feel about themselves as learners and their school environment. Developed by educational psychologists, PASS provides valuable insights into students' emotional wellbeing and attitudes, both of which directly impact their learning and engagement, allowing educators to track changes over time and evaluate the impact of interventions. With easy-to-read data dashboards and tailored recommendations, PASS supports schools in identifying hidden barriers to learning and taking targeted, evidence-based action to support every student.

At Obelus, we are proud to be the sole distributor of PASS in Jordan, empowering educators with the tools they need to support both academic achievement and student wellbeing.

Why Choose PASS?

PASS removes the guesswork from understanding why students may feel disengaged, disruptive, or reluctant to participate. The assessment helps identify at-risk students early and supports schools in taking targeted action before these issues affect academic performance. PASS can be taken up to three times a year. This flexible structure allows schools to use it as a baseline, midline, and endline measure, providing valuable insights into students’ attitudes towards school and their self-regard over time. By implementing PASS at multiple points throughout the year, schools can effectively monitor progress, evaluate interventions, and make informed, data-driven decisions to support student wellbeing and academic success.

PASS can be summarized as follows:

  • Quick and Comprehensive: Administered in just 20 minutes, PASS generates easy-to-read traffic-light reports, highlighting areas where intervention is recommended.
  • Uncover Hidden Issues: Many students who require pastoral support often go unnoticed and might struggle with low self-esteem, anxiety, or disengagement. PASS helps schools identify these students early.
  • Evidence-Based Solutions: Includes over 70 intervention strategies designed to address whole-school, class, group, and/or individual needs.
  • Whole-Child Insight: Go beyond grades to understand students’ attitudes, wellbeing, and emotional readiness to learn.
  • Research-Backed: Developed by educational psychologists with a strong foundation in psychometrics for reliable, accurate results.
  • Track Progress: Use up to three times a year (baseline, midline, endline) to monitor student growth and measure impact over time.
  • Supports Inclusion & Wellbeing: Helps schools create nurturing environments that support every student’s unique needs.

Measuring Attitudes Across Nine Key Factors

PASS evaluates nine critical areas of student attitudes towards learning, including:

  • Feelings About School – How students feel about their overall school experience.
  • Perceived Learning Capability – Students’ confidence in their ability to succeed academically.
  • Self-Regard as a Learner – How students perceive themselves as learners.
  • Preparedness for Learning – How ready students feel to engage with schoolwork.
  • Attitudes to Teachers – Students’ perceptions of their relationships with teachers.
  • General Work Ethics – The effort students believe they put into their schoolwork.
  • Confidence in Learning – Belief in their ability to overcome challenges and succeed.
  • Attitudes to Attendance – How positively students view regular school attendance.
  • Response to Curriculum Demands – How well students think they can meet curriculum requirements.
